See Something, Say Something, and Report, Don’t Repost!

Dear TSD Families,

We are aware of a social media post referencing an incident that took place at Toppenish High School yesterday that began circulating earlier this morning on TikTok and in some community Facebook groups.

The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. As soon as THS administration became aware of the post, they immediately followed district safety protocols, contacted law enforcement and began an investigation. Out of an abundance of caution, additional law enforcement presence was also available at THS today. Because this concern specifically involved THS, school administration notified THS families and staff of the incident yesterday evening. 

As this is an active law enforcement investigation involving students, we are not able to share specific details. However, we want our families to know that we are taking this matter seriously and are continuing to work closely with law enforcement as the investigation moves forward. 

We want to thank our THS leadership for their prompt response and, just as importantly, thank the members of our community who reported the concern. Our first line of defense is each other. We all have an important role in keeping our schools and community safe.

If your student sees or hears something concerning, please encourage them to tell a trusted adult or school administrator immediately, or submit an anonymous tip through HearMeWA (see attached). If there is an immediate threat or emergency, call 911.

Please do not repost or continue circulating threatening or concerning content on social media. Sharing these posts can delay a safe response, make it more difficult for law enforcement to identify the original source, spread misinformation and give harmful content additional attention. Reporting concerns directly allows school staff and law enforcement to respond as quickly as possible.

We also encourage families to use this as an opportunity to talk with their students about the impact their words and actions can have, especially when it comes to school safety. Statements or posts that may be intended as a joke or not meant to cause harm can still create fear and must be taken seriously. Any threat involving our schools, students, and staff, will be investigated and addressed according to district safety and discipline procedures. As Wildcats, we are accountable for the choices we make and for how those choices impact others. These conversations at home are an important part of helping students make safe, responsible choices and understand the role we all play in caring for our school community. 

Keeping our schools safe is a shared responsibility. Thank you for continuing to report concerns quickly and for talking with your students.
